Almost Christmas!

I absolutely love Christmastime. I love Christmas decorations, shopping for presents, the abundance of sweets, and the non-stop Christmas music and movies! It's hard to believe that this time of year is already here again. The years seem to be flying by...Eek!

We've been pretty busy lately. We are looking at houses in the area. We're still not 100% on any one house, but we have seen some we like for some decent prices. It's such a big commitment though that I'm very comfortable taking our time to find the right one. It will be nice (if we do buy) to have some more storage space. I love organizing and being organized, so that sounds good to me!

Two weekends ago we went to the SEC Championship. We met up with Julie and Laurie which was awesome! We couldn't sit with them of course because they had awesome student tickets in the front row, but it was still fun. Man I kind of miss those college roommate days! And the GATORS WON! Now they are headed to the National Championship in Miami. Most likely (at least at this point) we're just going to be watching it here in Atlanta.

This Friday night is Travis' holiday party for his new job. It's some sort of dinner mystery dinner theater...which I've always enjoyed in the past and feel it will pretty fun. I will also be glad when Friday arrives because I have 2 weeks off!

Aquarium and Marathon and Thanksgiving

I'm so excited! Today I get to see my bestest friend in the entire world-Ashley! She and Kelly are coming into town today to see Kelly's parents for Thanksgiving. It's a fast trip since Ashley's parents are going to see her new house, but still, I'm glad to spend some time with her! We are going to the Georgia Aquarium, which I haven't done yet so I think it will be fun. I'm really excited to see the Titanic exhibit that just came in.

I got my hair cut yesterday by a new stylist at Bon Vivant. Her name is Christy and I LOVE my hair. I asked Travis if he liked it and he said "Do you want me to be honest?" That of course scared me because I thought he was going to say no, but I'd still rather know if my husband thinks I look hideous or not. Anyways, he said he didn't even notice. haha, all that worry for nothing. But Christy (Ellis) agrees with me that it looks much better than the last time I got it cut. I have finally found a stylist to go to on a regular basis- at least while we live in Atlanta!

Tomorrow is the Weather Channel Marathon. I am a little excited but also disappointed. I have gotten sick so much during this training because of my job and really don't feel as prepared as I would like. Charles convinced me to stay with the marathon rather than switch to the half. I am just telling myself that I am not worried about time (I'm really going to try to be true to this) and that I'm doing it merely for fun and exercise. I know I can finish- probably just not in the time I'd like. I don't want to be hurt after the race and miss more workouts, so I will be careful. I am already looking to the March 14 marathon here in Atlanta and feel that I have plenty of tim to continue my training to get ready for it. That's what I'll be focusing on after tomorrow. Still, it's always fun to run a new race and it will be the first time I have someone I know running with me!

Travis' family comes into town on Thursday afternoon. It should be fun. I can't believe we're even attempting to host Thanksgiving in our itty bitty apt., but we are! It should be interesting.

Happy Thanksgiving!

(PS I can't wait for the parade! I am going to have to tape it though since I'll be running while it's on.)

The Holidays are coming!

My favorite time of year is Halloween to New Year's. I love all the holidays in between, but especially love the Christmas shopping season. I love all the lights people put on their houses, the way stores decorate for the holidays, and my all time favorite- 24/7 Christmas music! I always feel so at peace this time of year and really enjoy getting together with family and friends.

Tomorrow night we're going to see the Transiberian Orchestra play. I know this is really going to put me in holiday mode! We are also hosting Thanksgiving holidays with Travis' family here in Atlanta. We haven't seen our families in a long time because of moving so much in the last 6 months, so we are really excited to see them and catch up. We still don't really have our own "place" so it's hard to begin real traditions, but it will still be fun to be able to spend the holidays in Atlanta.

So far we have planned my marathon on Thanksgiving Day (very excited about this!) and then probably a trip to the Georgia Aquarium. I've never been but have heard wonderful things about it. I'm really excited to spend time with Trina! I love having a sister in law that I get along with. She's going to actually stay in our apt. the whole time so I'm excited to catch up with her. We got a hotel for everyone else b/c let's be honest, our apt. is WAY bigger than NYC apt. but we still only have about 850 square feet!

The weather has been beautiful here and I've really enjoyed the "fall". I'm almost enjoying it more than I ever did in NYC b/c I actually have time in the afternoons to go outside.

You Can Vote However You Like

Election, New Job, and GATORS

Today is Election Day! I am ready for the election to be over because I am tired of all the bashing that has been occuring in both local and national elections. It makes me not watch TV...which is not necessarily a bad thing. I also will be glad to listen to the radio in peace again, hopefully in a few weeks.

I am hoping that McCain pulls out a victory but know that is a long shot. I think it's sad that our country is leaning more and more towards socialist ideals and hope that people think about that when they are voting for our President.

Anyways, enough about that because I simply don't want to go there.

Travis' new job starts next Monday! It is a very exciting time and I know he is ready for these last few days to be done. I am so glad he has found another opportunity to work in finance. His starting day is also his 25th birthday! It is hard to believe we are reaching that age! Eek! We haven't really talked about plans but I hope we at least get a cookie cake to celebrate (because they are the BEST!).

We are going this weekend to Highlands for the first time with Christy and Charles. The Kimbel's are also going. It should be fun. I'm hoping to get in a little hiking and running since I have been quite exhausted and sick the last 2-3 days. I hate when I don't feel well enough to workout- I just have to force myself to relax so that I can get better instead of dragging it out longer. It seems I'm getting sick a lot again this year at Brumby even though it's not my first year teaching. I use hand sanitizer ALL the time but it doesn't seem to be enough!

We haven't been up to too much. Mostly just watching the Gators slowly claw their way back up the polls. We are cheering for a trip to the National Championship but know it's still a few games away. Hopefully they win out! If the Gators go to Miami in January Travis and I will do whatever we can to get there....Saturdays in the fall are great! We love watching Gameday and football games all day. I also love reading Every Day Should be Saturday (EDSBS) with Travis. It's a Florida alum who has a blog about all things in college football! He's very witty and makes fun of pretty much everything. I will add his blog link to the bottom of my page!

Great news!

I am so bad at these blog things. I will try to do better!

Our exciting news this week is that Travis got a new job! He's going to be working at a hedge fund here in Atlanta with a fellow Gator Alum! Go Gator Nation! He's really excited for the opportunity and experience it will provide. We had a great time celebrating last night at Hal's. That place is seriously the best steak house I've ever been too!

So it looks like we will get a little stability in our lives for at least the next few years. It's nice to know that we can really plug in here for awhile and really form some friendships.

We are looking forward to this weekend for all the good football games on TV and getting to hang out with Ross, Stephanie, Charles and Christy. It's homecoming for Florida and of course I'm sad not to be in Gainesville, but we're definitely planning on attending the SEC Championship game WHEN the Gators come to town.

I am also running a half marathon this weekend here in Atlanta. It's the Silver Comet Half Marathon. So far it looks like the weather should be really nice. It's been in the 40's-50's in the mornings so perfect running weather. I will post later how the race goes. It's supposedly a flat trail so I am aiming for at least 1:45 or under.

Speaking of, I am off for a run in this beautiful fall weather!

Getting started and Boston

I am going to start this blogging thing for those of you who care to check out what's going on in our lives. I have put Travis' name on here though I doubt he will EVER actually write up a blog. I will do it for him though.

We just got back from a great trip to Boston. I ran my first Boston Marathon and boy was it ever an experience. The course was the hardest I have yet experienced in my "marathon/half marathon" career. After training in Florida since last August on flat terrain, the downhills (not the uphills!) really got me. I was so glad to finish I just had to sit on the concrete for awhile.

I am planning to go back next year to better my Boston time, and of course will be running some more marathons and halfs in between. I have already promised my good friend Charles we will be running a half in Atlanta soon. We're trying to convince Kelly to do it with us. These boys refuse to run a full with me and I can't figure out why. Oh well. I will just have to join the road runner's club to find some running buddies.

On another note- I am almost finished with my first year of teaching kindergarten! It has been tough but my assistant principal has reassured me that if I can teach at this school I'll be able to get a job anywhere...and it will be easy. I am very much looking forward to that.

I have only one more class to take and I will be DONE with my permanent teaching certificate. It feels great b/c I've done it all since January. Then I will begin working on another certification- high school biology. I really want to get back to an area that I love more and I think this will allow me that. Not only that I can coach cross country or something like that! What fun.

Pictures of Boston to come!
