Been awhile

It's been awhile since the last post....a LONG while. And lots has happened since then. Quick rundown....

We bought a house just outside the Atlanta city limits. It's a great first time buyer house and we enjoyed 2 years living there. We are renting the house out to some great tenants for now.

We are now living in NYC while Travis attends Columbia University. He begins his program in the fall for his MBA. I just (JUST!) got a teaching job with a great charter school here in the city called Harlem Success Academy. I'm really excited about the opportunity. It's going to be a lot of work, and probably very hard, but I think it will make me an even better teacher. This school offers lots of feedback and professional development, so I'm really looking forward to working there. I report on Monday to be shipped out to Long Island for a "retreat" to really learn about the culture of the school and get to know my coworkers and principal. It should be exciting.

Travis is doing a pre-MBA internship with Deloitte and loving the experience. It seems like a really great company to work for.

Working at Pace the last few years was great. I loved coaching, especially cross country, and built some great relationships with my coworkers whom I'm going to miss very much. I'm so thankful I was able to work there and continue to build on my teaching experience. I have really been able to get a wide variety of experience, which is great b/c I feel I am marketable to a lot of different schools.

So that's a really quick version of the last 2 years. I'm loving NY so much more this time around. I love that already I have more friends than the first time b/c of our built in social network with Columbia. I am already missing hanging out so much with some of the girls I met last week at the Deloitte conference. Thank goodness we have 2 years!

Well, off for now. Perhaps I'll do better about blogging....we'll see :)

Only 5 more days!

It's almost Spring Break! I'm really excited even though I have zero plans outside of laying out and working out. I am happy that I'll have time to relax and get revved up for the last 6 weeks of school. Yes, hard to believe, but after spring break there will only be SIX weeks of school.

After all the stress about switching jobs in March I've been really surprised at how much I'm enjoying teaching my new kindergardeners. Not only is it fun (albeit stressful) but I am regaining some faith in myself as a teacher. After last year I wasn't sure if I even wanted to continue teaching, but at this school the atmosphere is so different. I actually feel like I can make a difference in these children's lives, I feel that I'm a good teacher and know what I'm doing, and I don't dread going to school in the morning. In fact, I look forward to each day, and each day flies by! In retrospect I think I'm glad they asked me to take over the class, even if it has been a little more crazy than the rest of my year.

With that said, I'm looking forward to teaching at PACE next year. I am excited about the coaching jobs I'll be doing and think coaching at camps this summer will be really fun. I'm so glad Christy put in a good word for me with the lower school principal!

This week Jason Mok came to town for E&Y training...as some of you know these are very exciting weeks! We went to a Hawks game on Monday night with some free tickets from a friend. It was a slow game but still nice to hang out with him and Dan. Then Thursday night we went to Taco Mac with him, and Sarah came too. I love that girl and I'm not sure why it seems that at times it's such a long between seeing her. Anyways, it was definitely the most interesting Taco Mac evening I've ever had. I'll leave it at a very drunk lady made the night interesting...and ended with her dancing on a table, falling off and breaking tons of glasses, and then being kicked out.

Not too much else is new. Travis and I are going to ride our bikes for the first time since fall today. It's been raining all week and the weather is still a little overcast, but at least it's not raining! I am ready to get out and start enjoying my bike.

New job...

One of these days I will be more consistent with updating this! Until then, I guess sporadic updates will have to do.

Life has been crazy in the last month or so for me. I was approached by my principal to take over a kindergarten class due to a teacher being promoted to an academic coach job. This means that 2 weeks ago, I stepped into the classroom again...in March. I feel that I've barely been keeping my head above water but am enjoying having my own "kids" again. I'm lucky in that they are all pretty high for kindergarten. The days and weeks have been flying by! The end of the year will be here before I know it.

I also officially got a job offer from Pace to teach pre-first. I'm really excited about working there. I'm still trying to get in contact with their Athletic Director so that I can step into a coaching job or two for next year. I'm really eyeing CC or track.

Last weekend Trina and her boyfriend Austin came to visit. They really entertained themselves by doing the "Atlanta touristy" thing. I was actually surprised at how many things they did. We all caught a Hawks game together. I love watching Horford play!

Travis and I went to another Hawks game this week against the Utah Jazz. We broke their winning streak and it was really exciting. We had really awesome seats behind the bench, only 2 rows back. Definitely the best seats we've had yet.

Tomorrow night we're going out for my birthday with the Kimbel's and Ellis'. We're going to try a new restaurant that's kind of cajun called Harry's. Hopefully it's good!

Okay, I guess that's about all for now. I'll try to post again sooner!

Almost Christmas!

I absolutely love Christmastime. I love Christmas decorations, shopping for presents, the abundance of sweets, and the non-stop Christmas music and movies! It's hard to believe that this time of year is already here again. The years seem to be flying by...Eek!

We've been pretty busy lately. We are looking at houses in the area. We're still not 100% on any one house, but we have seen some we like for some decent prices. It's such a big commitment though that I'm very comfortable taking our time to find the right one. It will be nice (if we do buy) to have some more storage space. I love organizing and being organized, so that sounds good to me!

Two weekends ago we went to the SEC Championship. We met up with Julie and Laurie which was awesome! We couldn't sit with them of course because they had awesome student tickets in the front row, but it was still fun. Man I kind of miss those college roommate days! And the GATORS WON! Now they are headed to the National Championship in Miami. Most likely (at least at this point) we're just going to be watching it here in Atlanta.

This Friday night is Travis' holiday party for his new job. It's some sort of dinner mystery dinner theater...which I've always enjoyed in the past and feel it will pretty fun. I will also be glad when Friday arrives because I have 2 weeks off!

Aquarium and Marathon and Thanksgiving

I'm so excited! Today I get to see my bestest friend in the entire world-Ashley! She and Kelly are coming into town today to see Kelly's parents for Thanksgiving. It's a fast trip since Ashley's parents are going to see her new house, but still, I'm glad to spend some time with her! We are going to the Georgia Aquarium, which I haven't done yet so I think it will be fun. I'm really excited to see the Titanic exhibit that just came in.

I got my hair cut yesterday by a new stylist at Bon Vivant. Her name is Christy and I LOVE my hair. I asked Travis if he liked it and he said "Do you want me to be honest?" That of course scared me because I thought he was going to say no, but I'd still rather know if my husband thinks I look hideous or not. Anyways, he said he didn't even notice. haha, all that worry for nothing. But Christy (Ellis) agrees with me that it looks much better than the last time I got it cut. I have finally found a stylist to go to on a regular basis- at least while we live in Atlanta!

Tomorrow is the Weather Channel Marathon. I am a little excited but also disappointed. I have gotten sick so much during this training because of my job and really don't feel as prepared as I would like. Charles convinced me to stay with the marathon rather than switch to the half. I am just telling myself that I am not worried about time (I'm really going to try to be true to this) and that I'm doing it merely for fun and exercise. I know I can finish- probably just not in the time I'd like. I don't want to be hurt after the race and miss more workouts, so I will be careful. I am already looking to the March 14 marathon here in Atlanta and feel that I have plenty of tim to continue my training to get ready for it. That's what I'll be focusing on after tomorrow. Still, it's always fun to run a new race and it will be the first time I have someone I know running with me!

Travis' family comes into town on Thursday afternoon. It should be fun. I can't believe we're even attempting to host Thanksgiving in our itty bitty apt., but we are! It should be interesting.

Happy Thanksgiving!

(PS I can't wait for the parade! I am going to have to tape it though since I'll be running while it's on.)

The Holidays are coming!

My favorite time of year is Halloween to New Year's. I love all the holidays in between, but especially love the Christmas shopping season. I love all the lights people put on their houses, the way stores decorate for the holidays, and my all time favorite- 24/7 Christmas music! I always feel so at peace this time of year and really enjoy getting together with family and friends.

Tomorrow night we're going to see the Transiberian Orchestra play. I know this is really going to put me in holiday mode! We are also hosting Thanksgiving holidays with Travis' family here in Atlanta. We haven't seen our families in a long time because of moving so much in the last 6 months, so we are really excited to see them and catch up. We still don't really have our own "place" so it's hard to begin real traditions, but it will still be fun to be able to spend the holidays in Atlanta.

So far we have planned my marathon on Thanksgiving Day (very excited about this!) and then probably a trip to the Georgia Aquarium. I've never been but have heard wonderful things about it. I'm really excited to spend time with Trina! I love having a sister in law that I get along with. She's going to actually stay in our apt. the whole time so I'm excited to catch up with her. We got a hotel for everyone else b/c let's be honest, our apt. is WAY bigger than NYC apt. but we still only have about 850 square feet!

The weather has been beautiful here and I've really enjoyed the "fall". I'm almost enjoying it more than I ever did in NYC b/c I actually have time in the afternoons to go outside.
